Our Story

This is perhaps the most important year in Shakesperience history, and it needs your support!

With almost 30 years of programming, Shakesperience has reached well over one million students. Its signature public presence is the annual and professional Shakespeare in the Litchfield Hills, FREE outdoor Shakespeare. For each of these core missions, Shakesperience needs public support.

Shakesperience was founded in 1996 with a mission to educate and inspire students, families, and theater professionals through the arts. It is a nonprofit professional theater company located in Connecticut that reaches a Northeast audience of adults and students alike with outdoor and in-studio performances, Saturday and private acting classesschool & camp tours, and residency programs. Please give as generously as you can!

To show donor appreciation, Shakesperience invites you to join us on Facebook, Zoom, and in-person for 36 Hours of FREE programming during Give Local 2025! It's Shakespeare-a-thon! On the first day, April 29 from 10am to 12pm, experience the new Poetry Interactive Workshop. From 1pm to 2pm, enjoy some favorite scenes from the "Neighborhoods!" script. Then share your own story of Waterbury. On the second day, April 30 from 4pm to 5pm, watch a student adaptation of Hamlet from their Saturday Spring Acting Intensives. From 5pm to 6pm, tune in to listen to the Friends of Shakespeare in the Litchfield Hills discuss upcoming events, live both in Shakesperience's 117 Bank Street studio (Waterbury) studio and The Ideas Depot at 11 Bryan Hall Plaza (Washington Depot). These are but a few of the hours of this jam-packed event.
