Our Story
Founded in 2016, New Milford Refugee Resettlement (NMRR) has helped three families become independent, productive members of our community!
We have a 100% success record
Our financial agreement with our families is that we pay all rent and utilities for the first three months (plus a small stipend), then 75% of the rent and utilities for the second three months, 50% for the third and 25% for the fourth. At the end of one year, the family is expected to be fully independent financially. Throughout that time, our volunteers continue to help the family members enroll in school, set up bank accounts, find doctors and dentists, access social services and food banks, find tutors and ESL classes, and (very importantly) get their drivers’ licenses.
In 2025 we are helping our fourth, fifth and sixth families…at the same time!
The need is great
We have accelerated our support effort, because while the current administration has worked to stop illegal immigration, they also dismantled the legal refugee programs that have
been critical to helping families all over the world for over 60 years. We worked hard to get these fully vetted families into our care before the window of opportunity closed. We are now currently supporting family of seven, a family of three and another family of three…with a mother expecting twins!

We are a 100% volunteer organization , and the core work of arranging housing, employment, education, healthcare, and enabling successful life in the community requires a lot of time and funding.
