Friends of the Thomaston Opera House
Our Story
The Friends of the Thomaston Opera House is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to improving and restoring the historic facility. Friends raises funds and participates in the planning and execution of improvement and restoration projects at the Thomaston Opera House.
We are excited to share the transformative renovations scheduled for our beloved Thomaston Opera House this year. The historic ceiling coffers, beams, and coves will be meticulously restored to their original grandeur. The iconic plaster ceilings demand restoration after more than a century of use. Unfortunately, prolonged exposure has caused deterioration, plaster dislodgement, and water damage. Sections have collapsed entirely. The original calcimine paint is actively peeling, presenting a complex challenge for preservation experts. We aim to revive the Opera House's original splendor through strategic conservation efforts and faithful artwork replication. This revitalized space will be a crown jewel of the downtown area, driving economic growth and uniting residents through shared cultural experiences.
However, these much-needed improvements also bring challenges. All of these projects will take an extensive amount of time and money to be completed by the end of the year. Your support during Give Local will help to support our mission of restoring the Thomaston Opera House to its original grandeur while maintaining its historical integrity.
