Our Story

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a 122-bed not-for-profit acute care facility serving more than 100,000 residents across northwest Connecticut. The hospital provides a broad range of inpatient and outpatient services and is home to several regionally unique programs, including the only Surgical Robotic Program and Neuroscience Center in Litchfield County, as well as the only Child Advocacy Center in the region.

As part of Hartford HealthCare, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital benefits from systemwide collaboration and strategic investments in quality, safety, and patient experience. This affiliation enhances the hospital’s ability to deliver accessible and equitable high-quality care while continuing its long-standing mission to serve the local community.

Food4Health

Inadequate nutrition is the leading cause of poor health and mortality in America. Limited access to healthy food can lead to various diet-related illnesses that disproportionately impact lower-income individuals—including heart disease, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes.

Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Food4Health program addresses the stark disparities between Connecticut’s zip codes by providing at-risk patients and families enhanced access to nutritious foods and guidance on healthy food preparation and eating. The program aims to improve health outcomes and reduce hospital utilization by integrating medically tailored groceries and nutrition education into patients’ treatment plans.

Your investment in Food4Health will directly benefit our community by supporting the purchase of healthy foods for Charlotte Hungerford Hospital’s Food4Health Clinic and seeds for its hydroponic rooftop farm—which provides thousands of pounds of fresh, locally-grown produce each year to Food4Health patients. With your support, we can empower individuals to lead healthier lives and improve the future of healthcare in the northwest corner.
